Files Now Available

Due to some computer switching issues, there has been a bit of a delay, sorry about that.  I have finally gotten some files posted on the blog.  They include Kyle's phone conversations with Angela Hathaway, court documents from the AAHCC lawsuit, and the Brio Non-Disclosure.  You can access them by using the "Files" tab under the blog header.  If you have any other files of interest, I would be happy to publish them here.  You can send them to me at birthscamreport@gmail.com.   Thank you to those who have provided these files for helping to spread the truth about Brio Birth.

Can anyone identify who this woman is? She apparently attended a Brio educator training session. Please comment if you can help.

  2. Do we know where? That might help narrow it down. I know a few educators who went to different trainings.

    ReplyDelete
  3. No, sorry. All we know is that there is a very high chance that her photos are being used on another person's facebook for a fake identity. Figured this woman would want to know this.

  4. How do we know she was at a Brio training and not just some random photo stolen from FB? If it was someone at a Brio training, then there's a higher chance of figuring out who is is. If it's just some random photo....good luck!

  5. A close source (previous Brio trainer) has stated that Naomi took the photos of a woman who had attended one of the trainings at one point, then used them to create the Jenn L Peters account.

    1. This previous Brio trainer needs to step forward then and at the very least contact the real woman pictured and let her know what was done with her picture.

I have contacted trainers that were at each of the in person Brio trainings...this is not to say that I contacted all the trainers, but I contacted trainers that were at each of the trainings. I now have confirmation that none of them recognize the woman in the picture as having attended a training.

  6. Hmmm...well I've been talking to trainers, and so far they are pretty sure that this wasn't a person at the following trainings:

    -Denver January 2011
    -Anaheim January 2011
    -Dallas/Ft Worth January 2011
    -Chicago February 2011
    -Washington D.C. March 2011
    -Ocean City NJ April 2011

That leaves Phoenix in March 2011 or Atlanta in March 2011. There was a small training in New England somewhere in there, but I don't think any pictures came out of it. I don't think there have been any in person trainings since April 2011?

  7. You know what is strange about that Jenn L Peters profile. Well, several things.

    1. The only photo on there for some time was of this lady w/ another woman. Previously, I could swear it was tagged the other woman.
    2. The only photos on the profile showed the same women in the same clothes.
    3. There is no Jenn L. Peters as a Mary Kay consultant in CO As far as I could tell.
    4. She doesn't like Brio Birth (or I could have missed that) and still commented on their page to like Ina May Page. I do look and see and she doesn't like them from what I can tell. Just think that is REALLY strange. She likes every other organization you could think of, but not them.

    ReplyDelete
  8. As soon as I asked the Jenn L. Peters profile if she was an admin of the Ina May on an ad she posted for it (thus the subtle implication that I knew she was Naomi,) she immediately blocked me without even a reply. Very suspicious.

  10. Another obvious sign that it's Naomi is that she puts hearts in her posts. Notice how there are lots of hearts on Brios postings too? Anyone in her area try ordering some Mary K to see if she delivers it?

  13. I don't know for sure, but from scrolling back through posts, I'd bet it is one of Naomi's. Especially if you go back to around March - May 2011 posts, lots of them link to Brio Birth, My Best Birth (the period of time when they were courting Ricki Lake), the Denver Birth Circle, and other things that were associated with Naomi/Brio.

  14. I'm wondering about http://www.facebook.com/WorldMidwives. It started in early 2011, no owner/moderator is listed, and Naomi was pushing it for more "likes" today. Coincidence? Maybe -- maybe not. Does anybody know who started that group?

  16. On the b birth website:
The vimeo film is no longer available, the two women who were blogging frequently have stopped, when you click on the outdated button to register for the experienced educator training, it doesn't work. A comment from someone wanting an update to register is unanswered and not deleted.

And comments like this are not deleted from their discussion boards:
it's because there aren't really educators who support Brio Birth anymore. Many were burned in the deal and LEFT. and this one:
...I am so glad I was so close to getting screwed over. Luckily I saw through the abuse, lies, scandal, and corruption before getting involved.
If you want a good birth class that dont support bad things, don't take Brio. The organization has had a LOT of blemishes and is scaming left and right.....

Has the program died and the last one out forgot to turn out the lights?

    1. Could just be a minor problem, but I'm VERY hopeful they are heading out of the lime light soon. Just checked and they have 5K likers. Oh the insanity and the healing that will need to happen for a few years b/c many many people have no clue what is really on. I was also curious about all the "fabulous" articles they have been producing and hadn't had anything for 5 +weeks. What happened to those authors? Did they get burned somehow? Anyone know them to just let them know that hey, we get it and totally understand the feeling of defeat you must feel. It'll be interesting to see what is going on there now.

    2. Down 15 days and counting. The silence is deafening.

      Delete
  18. Those "fabulous" articles were being produced only because they were being paid -- not by Kyle, but by others financially supporting Brio. Once those funds were cut off, no more articles. No money = no writing. So no, they weren't "burned", but they were smart enough to stop working if they weren't getting paid.

  19. You know their website is STILL down :) Heard it through the grapevine that it was due to maintenance issues. That's a bunch of BS, but apparently we are too stupid to not know that an internet based company that's been down for over a week is a bad thing. Any real company would be freaking out at this moment and apologizing that is gone. But again we aren't dealing with a real company.

Karl also owns briobirth.co, briobirth.org, briobirth.net. Interesting huh?

  20. The website is still down, but Brio continues to create Facebook pages (like the one that makes it look like they're sponsoring World Breastfeeding Week). They don't know when to quit, do they?

    1. Well, yes while they are back it is a VERY old version of the website which leads me to believe all that code was lost somehow??? It shows to me they have not back up their data in a LONG LONG time. I could be highly speculating here. Another thing, you can search again for educators. Do the 4,000 mile radius, and you'll only get 2 pages of "educators". Most names I do not know, but there are a few that I do know that have left completely. There also aren't those stupid ads running so for now no income. No income also to get for selling items like workbooks or parking passes or educator trainings since the dates are over a year old. Also, most pages are denied access. I also checked several times to see about my log-in which I had removed some time ago. I am assuming it is gone but I could have forgotten my password. I don't think so though.

  22. This is what I don't get too. How the hell are they getting so many likers? I mean seriously? the other day they were at 5,100; yesterday was about 5,800. Today they have 6,300???? How is that even possible???? I'm not trying to play evil here, but how many people are being duped?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was wondering the same thing, who is liking them? When I checked the website I only saw about 10 teachers and I know at least half of them are not with them anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  24. They're getting likes because they are copying other peoples graphics, quotes, and videos and uploading them as their own. People are following videos like the Deaf Baby Hearing For The First Time because they aren't sharing them, they're just uploading them as their own products.

  25. Has anyone heard anything from the BrioVent case? Is the site going to be put back up?

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't know who runs this blog or if more has been shared that can go up, but seriously more has to be said. 11,111 likers for Brio. There is a high potential for major scam to start and I'm having a very difficult time not looking. I'm blocked from them on facebook and really hate bringing this crap up again for my friends and family to see. I seriously cannot fathom why they are still around and cannot wait until they are gone.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I agree. Continuing to put stuff up seems like just whining, but it's so hard to know how to effectively warn people. What about flooding that reporter's inbox with a mess of requests asking for a story? Did he ever do one after the parking pass thing? Don't investigative reporters love exposing this kind of thing?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that every single person that has been hurt by Brio needs to contact everyone they personally know in their birth community, whether it's friends, midwives, past or present students or clients, doulas, birthing circles and let them know what happened to them. It is not malicious, gossip, defamation, or anything else when you tell factually what happened to YOU. Kyle can threaten all he wants, but as long as you stick to facts about what you KNOW to be true, about what happened to you personally, you're on solid ground.

    1. I already think most in my area do know about this. We talked a great length. I'm talking about the greater population. Those 12K likers. Today someone is praising them wishing they had something like this when they had children. There isn't really a way to warn since you can get a general population news feed on facebook, or if you can I don't know how. I'd love to find a way to reach some of those likers and say, hey, you realize they tried this in late 2010 to get get going and screwed the educators who helped them develop the first curriculum and reputation they have (and by that I mean, recall how we all were posting ever where how awesome they were?). With Brio Vent gone there is no way to point them. This blog is less active and not generating a new pull to people. I find it really odd they (KylomiKarl) could win their case against Brio Vent when (and this is just a past time of mine) there are blogs and msg boards that are very publicly denouncing Scientology. Scientology has tried for years in courts to get these sites down, but they have not won. I just don't get it why this would happen now when boy it was helpful. There was so much there on BV to show a pattern of behavior. What I find strange as well, you can click to go to their website and that video still doesn't work and now educators who aren't in with Brio are listed AGAIN. The articles are now showing incorrect time stamps. There are some interesting comments on the training dates page, but it is buried that again the general public (mom needing info) isn't going to investigate this way. I feel even more screwed over now.

I'm sure this is how she got so many followers so fast for Brio.

I have been getting messages for close to a year and read all of the "Vent" blog and I kept neutral and waited to see what happened. While I am sure there were improper actions on the Brio side they are doing good and informing people - isn't that what we all want. This whole thing, blog, vendetta whatever you people are doing seems like a one sided rant, I don't know their side of it because they arent trying to post publicly but I would be SHOCKED if there wasn't some serious reasons for them doing anything to you after seeing how you all are acting. Grow up and go do some good rather than try and tear down a company that is actually getting somewhere. If you didn't get paid sue them and shut up publicly. Look at the look and tone of this blog, it radiates hate and that is only hurting all of you. Please for your own sakes and for all those who are SICK AND TIRED OF YOUR SPREADING THE DRAMA STOP. Everyone already knows how you feel the birth community already knows and the more you beat the dead horse the more you all look like crazy obsessed wackos. 1. Anon 5:32 sounds like Kyle spreading more lies. They are not doing any good. They are running a scam against the birth community. All they have done is to lie, cheat, and steal anything and everything they can get their hands onto. You want people to sue them? That was already done, and they lost BIG TIME. That didn't stop their scamming.

They owe hundreds of thousands of dollars. They have defrauded hundreds if not thousands of people. They are doing real harm to real families, but all that is ok because people like you won't open your eyes to what is really going on.

What did you get from them? A training that never happened? A workbook that they stole from people who did the actual work? A parking pass that was fraudulent? Or did you just get a good feeling from helping them continue their scam.

Wake up, smell the coffee, and stop defending these crooks!

  32. To Anon 5:32 -- the problem here is, most of the money taken was in "small" amounts -- $150 up to maybe $800 max. per person. All this came from women who wanted to do nothing more than help other people; many of these were stay-at-home moms or single moms who could not afford to lose their investment. But are they REALLY going to hire an attorney at $200+ per hour to try to get back the money they lost? Of course not -- and the Brio folks know that -- and that's why these women are so angry. They have NO recourse at all; the only thing they can do is to warn others away.

    1. What I can't figure out is what everyone lost. They have teachers, right? There are those who are teaching and certified, right? Did those who lost money choose to leave or were they stolen from? I guess I'm just not seeing how so many "lost money"

Can you still buy workbooks? Isn't it supposed to be "the best"? Why would you not teach with the best material available and help the women that you originally set out to help? What is stopping you from getting all your money's worth and more?

      Delete
    2. Looks like Kyle is back.

  33. Most of the people who paid were never given certification. When you see "all those names" on their website, understand that most of those people have nothing to do with Brio and can't get them to remove their names. Then they changed their "plan of business" from the way most people WANTED to teach when they signed up (face-to-face weekly sessions with couples) to this new, partially online system, which many people considered a bait-and-switch.

The workbooks LOOK lovely, but many people that have used them said that they're choppy and too textbook like. I don't know the status of the workbooks, but if I were to guess, I'd bet that the original printing should be running low. I'd also bet that the money that came in from sales was spent as quickly as it arrived. If there's any left for new books, it would be very surprising. There was also some discussion a while back that with the new online system would come new materials. Of course, nobody's seen any of those either.

    1. Were people denied certification? It just seems like this is not entirely what it's cracked up to be. There are two sides to every story and the truth is usually found between the two.

I am seeing that there are some substantial legal fees owed but as far as the educators being "wronged" and stolen from I call BS. Sounds like they just copped out and gave up for a reason I can't seem to pin down.

    2. Okay, yes we were denied certification. I filed a BBB complaint explaining all that happened with me. When it came time to give in docs for certification, RR were taken away. Where we to turn in our work? I got frustrated with the entire thing. Also, we were told in the switch from the former certifying group we needed to provide an outline (could use the brio one if wanted, do training, and birth requirement). During my training, we then were told we had to do a business plan and 2 more writings. We were told experienced teachers had nothing to worry about and would be certified. Over 3 mos later, we then were told our certification would be only valid for 3 mos AFTER said training for ALL teachers. When we received our certs, they were expired. Then RR were removed so we couldn't even turn anything in and no final exam was created nor given to ANYONE! After my BBB, I was given the chance to take the exam (mind you months after RR's are now gone). I was informed I passed the exam and certificated would be issued shortly. I waited and waited and waited. Finally, I wrote them telling them I had enough and was done. So, 10/11 months after I tried to work them and after they stole articles from me and research I had done and rewrote something of mine and removed my credit from the work I said I was done and left. Yes, I was denied certification. They dragged me along so as to make it seem they were working with me, but they never intended to issue a certificate to anyone. They are focusing on virtual training and virtual classes.

      Delete
    3. So you were actually TOLD that you could not be certified? That they refused to certify you? I just don't think this is all adding up, that's all. I would venture to guess that if you called them up today they would not see you as "uncertified" based on what you've said. And what articles did they steal from you? Links and references needed there.

I'm highly skeptical of people who seem so perfectly angry at a situation - where it's "all the other side's fault." I haven't heard anything that was done wrong on "this" side (other than saying that you shouldn't have trusted them). I'm thinking there is an entirely other story line to be found. No doubt you are all mad but this seems like just a big waste of time and energy. Sounds like you just want to be mad and don't actually want any real resolution.

I am a newly trained educator with "them" -- there I said it. I got on here trying to find out if there was any real truth what has been said. I've gone through the process and have had no such problems. They seem busy but I didn't get the impression they were being deceptive or difficult. Look at what they are doing and what they have done. I get more of the sense that some loud mouth along the way got a personal issue with someone and stirred everyone up. The workbook was a group effort and was made and then everyone else WALKED AWAY from it. It is AMAZING work! I LOVE it!! But nothing seems to have been stolen. I don't know what you all went through in the beginning but you're still acting as though its the same company (which was only, what, a few months old anyway??) I have no idea how I would have responded if I had started on early too but having the perspective that I do of NOT having gone through it and I think its time to take a breath and either finish what you started or MOVE ON. I want to be successful. I like the image. I like what my students will see when they go to Brio. And what you are (trying) to do damages what --I-- am trying to do. My efforts to help couples is more important than your silly vendetta.

Perhaps you should look at what the company is like NOW. Its not perfect. You can tell it's still young and still changing. Its way more than I got with any other childbirth organization and I take my success into my own hands. I can market my classes and teach the amazing and thorough classes and there is NOTHING stopping me from doing that. From what I can tell you all are in the same boat as I am, you're just whining about it.

You can rant and rave all you want and hope they will go away but here is ONE person who sees through all your BS and lame excuses that have kept you from taking what you were given and make it something good. Its clear that despite all your "efforts" (ahem, rant and gossip) they're not going anywhere so seriously join 'em or MOVE ON.

      Delete
    4. You know, I had this response written out twice giving all the same info as I have before on several occasions. If you followed the vent blog, you've read my side. I am not whining. I just don't another woman caught in this mess and when something comes up here, I've posted what needs to be said. I'll never join them. I want an ethically certifying organization. I've chosen to go with CAPPA at this time because I see a brighter, happier, ethically driven future with them.

      Delete
    5. Then stop calling them crooks and claiming that they stole from you if its your choice to walk away. I have yet to see anyone who ACTUALLY was robbed by them -- just a whole bunch of hot hair. Be honest (ironically enough) in what you say and don't go shoving blame where it doesn't belong. I don't know your "side" as I don't know who you are. All of these postings are Anonymous so for all I know its the same person going on and on and on.

The only reason I'm posting Anon is because I clearly have a different opinion than you and I have no desire to be the target of your spiteful, childish, vindictive, misplaced hate. I have already wasted too much of my time. I am all worked up and should just go spend some time with my family. LOOK at what YOU are creating here - hate and more hate. There is NOTHING of VALUE here. NOTHING GOOD. NOTHING WORTH anything positive. When I calm myself down I feel nothing but very, very sorry for you (or you all, depending on if there's more than one person here). And to think you guys are actually BIRTH WORKERS. Seriously.

      Delete
    6. Wow...where did that come from? I've only posted today in this little thread here and maybe 2X above. I'll admit nothing is positive here, but when it happens to you, again, I say you'll completely understand.

And I didn't call them a crook. I am not claiming they stole; it is truth. For me, it was about credit. Credit for the research I gave and credit for something they used on the website. I know you don't care.

The lie, not a claim, it is truth. Naomi admitted to that fact to me, and I have a very hard time letting go when I am lied to. When this happens to you with BB, you'll understand.

Just go teach and no one day, you will feel the exact same feelings because something is going to change and you'll be scratching your head wondering what the heck happened.

I feel very sorry for you actually to not even take a chance to think and use the questions to figure out the truth. And maybe if I knew you weren't Kyle/Naomi/Karl et al. I might open more and tell you who I am and my real experience.

    7. The more I think about this the more it seems that you thought you were getting one thing from Brio and then threw a big huge fit when it didn't go your way... so does that mean that I am now getting what you thought you signed up for in the beginning? Why warn people to stay away when they are doing what they said they would do?

My question is when are YOU going to give up and go away? YOU are hurting MY ability to teach and MY credibility. You're hurting those educators who are getting what they paid for. You are not hurting Brio Birth - they are obviously still running and growing. They got my money and I got what I paid for. So what have you accomplished? All you are doing is making the Brio Birth brand look bad for the general public which hurts ME and not THEM. So please CUT IT OUT. YOU are hurting birth workers. YOU are damaging the birthing community, as you claim they have done. You have been such a bully that no one has stood up to you but we've all been thinking it. The damage YOU have done will be felt for years. Because of YOU (and the vent blog before you) some people THINK Brio is a scam... but no one has any PROOF! I still have yet to see any real PROOF that they are a scam. But I have, or rather AM, ample proof that they are NOT a scam. Anyone who claims they have been "hurt by Brio" seems to have done it to themselves. You guys are making yourself look so foolish by trying so hard to reach out to everyone in the community to "warn" them about Brio. There are enough of us being successful with Brio to discount your claim that they are a scam and the more you talk about it the more you ruin YOUR credibility.

I will not comment here again. Have fun with your pity party... and talking bad about about me since you clearly have nothing to dispute what I have said. Those who are filled with hate will always result to tearing down one's character rather than work through the logic.

      Delete
    8. The only pity we have is for you. How could you possibly defend them unless you are either totally ignorant of what they have done, or most likely you are just Kyle or one of his minions trying to save a sinking ship.

Did you listen to the phone calls? Did he say anything that wasn't a lie?

Did you read the court papers? He lied about everything.

Did you read how their accounts have been seized, and they keep changing them to try to keep collecting fools money?

Even Karl has apparently dropped them. The website was down for weeks, and hasn't really been updated in months. I wonder how much they owe him.

Did you bother to watch the news story where Kyle said they were selling totally illegal parking passes, but then when confronted said they never planned on sending them out?

Do you deny that you now belong to an organization that owes a $150,000 judgment, probably another $100,000 in legals fees, and tens of thousands to the Contards, not to mention the tens of thousands that they owe to the people who have quit and demanded refunds.

What does it take to get you to think for yourself, instead of following a moron who's never been able to hold a real job, and does nothing but abuse women and destroy the birth community?

How about you answer this? How did you pay for your training? I'm sure the creditors would love to seize that account too.

You've been told the truth, but refuse to listen, so no PITY for you anymore, you are now part of the problem.

    9. The workbooks do look lovely. And they took a LOT Of work to make them. I used them with pride.

That said...I did agree that they were very "textbook-like." I felt they should have been a bit lighter on content to leave the educators room to educate. There were definitely a lot of topics that I felt like the workbook had so much in it, it didn't really leave me much room to present any material!

But why should I purchase workbooks from Brio and line their pockets, when since I'm a former Regional Rep, the Thomases owe me THOUSANDS of dollars? Yes, I was niave and stupid. I continued to work for them for months even though they never provided a contract. I have no legal proof that they owe me money. None. Neither do any of the other Regional Reps, and I'd estimate that between us, they owe us $30-$40,000. Why don't we sue as a group? Well because you can't get blood from a stone for one thing. We know the Thomases have no money to pay even if we were to get a judgement against them. And again...since we stupidly worked without contracts...we have no legal proof that they owe us money.

Of course this was pretty standard for them. They took advantage of the good will of many women who just wanted to make a change in the birth community, and convinced us that a contract was not all that important, that they were working on it, if we'd just be patient with them...

    10. Still very skepticalAugust 20, 2012 at 12:27 PM

That's quite the claim... I understand about not having contracts in place but I would need to see an itemized list of WHAT they owe you for before believing that they owe you thousands and just refuse to pay you.

      Delete
    11. I can't give you quite an "itemized" list for what I am owed, because if I disclose exactly how much work I did, then it would identify which Regional Rep (RR) I am. I can tell you however what we were told we would be paid for various work tasks:

      * We were told we would be paid $15 per hour for work which is gross underpayment for the work we were doing, but we accepted it because we believed in the "cause,"...however...well...see itemized payments below to see if that $15/hr actually ended up being offered...
      * $500 for the Denver Training (which all RR's except one who was brought on after the training attended--and keep in mind that RR's worked a MINIMUM of 40 hours at this event, not including travel time)
      * $600 per month for the months of January, February and March for a total of $1800. It was expected that this would be for 10 hrs per week of work over the course of 13 weeks. (It should be noted that we were told in December 2010 that we would be paid $600/$1200/$1800 per month for a total of $3600...it was in late March when this was revised to $600 per month. To be fair...we were also told in December our work hours would be 10 hrs per week in January, 20 hrs per week in February, and 30 per week in March...and I don't think any of the RR's worked more than 10 hrs per week on average).
      * $700 for conducting a training after Denver. There were full trainings in Anaheim, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington D.C., and Ocean City NJ; most of which had two RR's or a RR and Ellen Contard as trainers. These trainings required a minimum of 100 hours of work in addition to travel time. There were also shorter "experienced educator" trainings conducted in Chicago and in New England, but a payment rate for those trainings was not quoted.
      * $125 for each 2-3 hr "virtual" training session conducted (amazing how the hourly rate for conducting these trainings suddenly became commensurate with the market for the work we were doing...kind of shows you where the Thomases really wanted work to be done, huh?). I think pretty much all of the RR's conducted these sessions, several conducted 6-8 of them or perhaps even more.

At a bare minimum, you can see from these numbers, which were in a draft contract that was *finally* given to the RR's in late March but then never finalized, a RR would be due $500 for the Denver training and $1800 for the monthly payments, for a total of $2300. For the RR's who conducted multiple in person trainings, and significant numbers of virtual trainings, that number grew quite a bit.

    1. It did actually concern me. It really freaked me out. And then I picked up the phone and called them. If they had been actually selling them, it would have been all over. They were READY to sell them, IF given approval. That's what they said on the news it was also just really twisted. Another news channel actually removed the story because of the inaccuracies and it was the same as the 9 News one.

Then I realized that we all know that the media ALWAYS tells the truth, right? /sarcasm/ If YOU want to call and ask them yourself this is the number I called 720.340.BABY. Bottom line is there is still NO PROOF that there was anything wrong done here, just an over-inflated news story that didn't get it right. You guys are acting just like a doctor who EXPECTS that something is or will go wrong so at the slightest indication that there may be something he jumps in and cuts, or assumes.

I am still wondering about the itemized list of what the Regional Rep who posted earlier claims was owed to her... that seemed like the most traction of actual PROOF but apparently not. If an inaccurately reported news story is all you've got then like I said before - you're all just a bunch of angry, nasty birth workers getting together to bitch.

      Delete
    2. So, here's the lie they just told you. It's still on the channel 4 website.

      http://denver.cbslocal.com/video/7225620-man-accused-of-selling-bogus-parking-passes-for-pregnant-women/

Also, that parking pass thing was on the website for weeks! All you had to do was google brio birth and parking pass and you got the webpage. It was until a couple of weeks ago they changed the website and removed that page. If they were a REAL company and not outsourcing, they would have removed that page and NEVER made it public they were going to do this kind of thing.

I'd you to step back a bit and think about what they were saying to pregnant women. If you had seen that webpage, it was very degrading. "I should be able to park there." and "Just watch me waddle in from 20 rows back and tell me this isn't a pain in the...well everywhere.", and "You be THIS pregnant and tell me I can't park there." Never a mention of the benefits of why walking is one of the most beneficial exercises for pregnant women. Question why would a company contact news media KNOWING they could not LEGALLY sell these items? That doesn't jive with me either. Doesn't that sound just somehow off??

Our contract stated as well compensation for ideas either by credit or monetary. When they took my research articles from our yahoo group after I had removed them, they didn't give me credit nor money. When they took something I had written and changed it a bit, and then removed my name...no credit given. That is proof. I don't know what contract you signed, but that's how mine went down.

There are people who asked for refunds. Here's an example http://midwife101.wordpress.com/2012/03/07/update-on-brio-birth/ and then I have emails from potential educators who also requested refunds, but honestly I don't know what happened in those cases. Why no refunds? They will tell you because we took training. Here's what I hate, did I get that writing that we would get refunds if not satisfied? NO. Did I tell them my dissatisfaction with training? YES absolutely to my RR and to the then president. But what about those that DIDN'T take a training and STILL no refund!? Why? That is great question to ask.

I'd still like to hear your positive experiences with them. I asked a long time ago if I could actually speak to other brio educators when I was on the line of still supporting them. I had talked with those that were not happy at all and really truly wanted to know who was happy and just to see their experience. You know what? That never happened. So, now I'm asking you. What has been great and perfect with them for you?

I would never ever tell a woman who felt as violated as we do (and please know that is what is going on here) that we were just getting together to bitch. That's degrading. So you can acknowledge a feeling of truth and sympathy for a company that tells you things, but when confronted with some truths from the other side we are bitching? Nice and you are a birth worker?

      Delete
    3. It is clear you are in real pain. I do empathize for you in that. I have a hard time NOT sliding into that role when I feel others in pain - I'm sure many here are that way since we ARE birth workers. But just because you are in pain does not mean that there is a great deal that you have contributed to be in this place. No doubt they have made mistakes. They have told me as much. But so have you guys. And in all my reading I haven't seen anything to that effect.

And on that note, I would be sure that THEY are in a great deal of pain, some of which YOU have caused them... but where is their hate blog bashing you guys while being totally one-sided? They are far more classy than that. AND they have kept working through all of your attacks. I would be so ashamed to be on that side of the fence, where all of the mud is being slung from, after seeing some of the things I have seen on Facebook. I didn't comment but I saw it. It was just disgusting and those who posted such things have shown everyone who they really are. True colors are not always beautiful. And the really sad thing is most of you guys claim to be Christian. There is nothing Christian going on here. Period. I am really not on any soap box there as God knows I've had my fair share of speaking bad about people through the years but you guys really take the cake. Honestly you would think that the Thomases were Satan's spawn themselves and that there was no possible way for any good to come from them ever because of their ever-reaching evil. Yeah it's been that bad.

I dare you, if you have the strength, to spend a solid 20-30 minutes TRULY trying to see things from another perspective. There are likely MANY facts that you have no idea about. Would you ever want someone judging you so harshly? And then telling EVERYONE what they thought from their place of zero compassion? I doubt that the "other side" is staying silent simply because they have nothing to say. And certain people along the way protesteth too much.

    4. I know what facts I was privy to at the time and here in lies the problem. You have entered this game late (if in fact you aren't Kyle/Naomi/Karl). The have lied and have admitted to lieing. The recorded conversation with Angela Hathaway should also shed light on the fact that Kyle had the Brio idea and name picked in October but didn't tell those that joined him. He led us to believe we had a say in the choosing of the name of this new endeavor. He LIED! He states on that tape to Angela in October 2010 that he wanted to purchase briobirth.com from the Hathaways and then in December he had us all brainstorm for names. I could be off on that month of brainstorm but it was either November or December and NO MENTION he had already chosen brio. I cannot stand to be lied to and he has continually.

Ummm...really? What is not Christian going on here? Do you think it is unChristian to publicly air the problems with Brio? Have you read in the Bible where Paul confronted Peter publicly because of his false teaching? What the Thomases are doing is affecting the public...many of us feel that we kept appealling to the Thomases privately for MUCH too long before we finally went public with what we knew from behind the scenes.

BTW...I've got better things to do with my life than check this blog every day, so yes, it took me a few days to answer the question about "itemized payments." But my answer is now above. You, on the other hand, have still not answered the question about who your trainer was for the wonderful Brio training that you took. Why not?

Oh Anonymous...how niave you are. I have never heard or seen in print anywhere that Karl has said anything negative about the Academy, I will give you that. But Kyle and Naomi? Oh my...Naomi in particular seems to have a VERY deep-seated animosity towards them.

Have you listened to the recordings of Kyle talking to Angela Hathaway that are posted here?

You are right that I don't think they ever made any VERY public postings about their disdain for the Academy...well...other than that "survey" they did in Fall 2010 where they hid behind survey respondant's comments... But they were quite vocal when talking to the "employees" of Brio back in 2010 and early 2011...if you can call a bunch of women working for no pay with no contracts "employees." They were also quite content to let all of the Brio educators believe in early 2011 that the Academy was somehow behind Facebook temporarily shutting down the educators' private Facebook group...when in reality either Kyle had it shut down, or Naomi using Kyle's account had it shut down. After that happened, heck, even before it happened...I began to have my doubts about why the "Denver Doula" Facebook account was taken down. I wondered if the Thomases had orchestrated that to get sympathy.

      Delete
    11. Anonymous 10:45...you obviously misunderstand the meaning of "paranoid." I don't think Kyle/Naomi/Karl are out to get ME, which is what I would have to think to be "paranoid." I do think there is very real documentation to support that supports that they have "issues" with the Academy. If you think it is paranoia to believe that the Thomases were behind shutting down the Brio educator Facebook group...well apparently you did not see the e-mails between "Kyle" (which could have been Naomi using Kyle's FB account) and Facebook staff asking that it be taken down! Kyle turned over these e-mails to the Regional Reps when he was asked for them...even after denying that he and Naomi had anything to do with shutting the group down.

  43. Two days ago there was a posting made to the Brio website that reads:

    Happy Anniversary to Us!

It is hard to believe but two years ago today we came up with the idea for Brio Birth. We didn't have a name yet (funny, I thought the name at that point was supposed to be "The Bradley Method," because in September-mid-October 2010, weren't they still telling people they wanted to buy out the Hathaways?) and we didn't know what direction we were going to go in, but we knew that birth education needed a modern edge without compromising on quality. So we set out on our journey. And as Victor Hugo said, "There is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come."

Today we have grown to be international with Brio Birth Professionals in 5 countries spanning across 3 continents and 2 hemispheres! We can hardly believe the reach we have today and the even greater potential that Brio Birth holds for helping the world tomorrow! We have what is known as a Big, Hairy, Audatious Goal (or BHAG for those who know and love Jim Collins, too) to help save 1,000,000 lives during the childbearing year through birth education (They don't specify if this is maternal lives, fetal, or newborn, but I'll be generous and assume they are referring to a combined total of the three. Yeah, that is a pretty audatious goal...considering that WHO reports less than 300,000 preventable maternal deaths worldwide each year, and a total of less than 6,000,000 newborn deaths and stillbirths--not all of which are likely to be "preventable." http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs348/en/index.html Do they REALLY think that maternal education alone can result in such a drastic drop in maternal/fetal/newborn deaths?) We have no idea how long it will take us but we are focused on this goal. We all know that there are lives lost during this precious time and so many of them could be saved with proper education and information. We see the need clearly and are so grateful for everyone who is with us already on this journey. Our community has grown to tens of thousands and we are humbled and overjoyed. (WOA! REALLY??? TENS of thousands? Last I saw (just a few minutes ago), they had about 12,000 FB fans...where is the rest of their "community?")

If you are not yet a part of this incredible movement and want to be, you can do something as simple as "Like" us on Facebook or Follow us on Twitter or look into being a Brio Birth Professional yourself and be on the forefront of something that is doing so much GOOD! (can they quantify what they have done that is good? ANYTHING? Well...okay...one might argue that they managed to get some changes in the AAHCC, and there is the spin-off group Informed Beginnings...but beyong that?) It is so incredible to be not just part of something that is fun and growing, but that is a cause and really has the capacity to make a difference.

If you need yet another avenue to jump on board with this, that can also pay you back, we just released our Referral Program! We want to reward you for sending couples to the very best in birth education anywhere. Virtual Classes are live and interactive but can be done in your living room, from two different locations for couples who may travel and even from your iPad! No one else is doing anything like this and to have it without missing a beat in quality. We expect you will be as excited about this as we are.

    END BRIO POST

I'd love if someone could issue "anniversary links" on the Brio FB page to the recordings of the phone calls with Angela Hathaway coming up in October. I'm still annoyed that the people on the "inside" who actually listened to those recordings in December 2010 never revealed how damning they were.

    1. Do you realize how dumb you sound? Are You really criticizing them for wanting to save lives??? If you are here I assume that you are a birth worker of some kind and that YOU want to save lives, right? I know I do, every birth I attend, every class a teach, every time I share info with a mom just in passing I hope that I can save a life, make an experience better and help trauma NOT happen. What is wrong with you?

I hate what some of the founders did but everything I see now is good, even if it is still the same people if they are trying to fix things and do things better and IF they really want to save lives I am all for it. We need as many people making noise as possible don't we? We need less division and less in fighting, this is the biggest problem in our community today. People like you are contributing to the biggest problem we have today. They may have affected a few hundred people but your actions and really the actions of many on here condone a bigger problem. The negative back biting and stupidity that is obvious to all of us yet who actually does anything, says anything? Not any of you, well hold on I have seen a few on here call you all out but you try and defend what is indefensible. You attacked Ina May for goodness sake - I mean who here can come close to saying they have done as much good as she has. Seriously you people need to take a good long look in the mirror and figure out who you want to be and on what side you want to fight with - the side that helps and saves or the side that destroys, belittles, complains, whines, lies, backbites and makes fun of people who are actually doing good?

      Delete
    2. Anonymous 5:30...there is nothing wrong with Brio wanting to save lives...the issue is that their goal of saving one million lives through education (most of it focussed in the US) is absolutely ridiculous. They are using the goal to sound very kind hearted and get people like you to swoon over them...when in reality their main goal--and what they spend much more time talking about in "inside" discussions--is making money.

As for the attack on Ina May...sorry, not me. BUT...is she GOD that her actions can not be challenged? Heck, even God was challenged by Moses and Abraham and asked to reconsider His planned actions. If what is reported about Rocinante is really true, that is WRONG. It doesn't negate that she's done a lot of good in the birth world...but she can't be allowed to do such wrong in another area.

Again, I will ask you, as several people have above...WHO conducted your training with Brio that you claim was so good? WHAT good is Brio really doing? They make lots of claims, but how many are substantiated? Is part of the "good" the awesome website? Hmmm...lets look at that "awesome" website.

For starters...lets look on the website to see just how "available" are Brio Birth classes? When I go to the Brio Birth website, I get a list of 19 educators who are "close" to me...if you consider those who are nearly 1000 miles away to be "close." Of the 19...through either my direct knowledge, or through Google searching, I can eliminate 17 (SEVENTEEN) of them as no longer being affiliated with Brio! Of the two who MIGHT still be affiliated with Brio...well I challenge you, go check out the "find an educator" feature yourself...you can't actually contact the educators through the Brio page. Prospective clients need to Google the instructor's name to try to find contact information. If I were still paying dues to Brio...I'd be pretty darned annoyed about that, because I doubt many prospective clients take that step.

Brio claims to be offering virtual classes...but if they can't even get a basic "find an educator" search feature to provide useful results...how likely is it that they are actually offering any sort of quality virtual classes? Have they offered even one testimonial from a couple who has taken the virtual classes?

So you now can pay them $20 so you can refer people to take their on-line course and then they will give you a kickback for each of those referrals.... and then depending on many people you refer become referrers, you can make more money??? This seems so unethical.... this type of scheme/kickback in the health care field is so wrong on so many levels.
    Flabbergasted.

    1. Not to mention the pyramid scheme-ishness of having people you refer become referrers that you make money off of...

  49. Not only that anon 7:08, they have interests chiming in on the facebook page for them to become birth pros. There is absolutely no way to warns these people and I really feel defeated. I am blocked from the fanpage. I don't think it ethical to PM them and since briovent is gone all that info is gone. I don't get why as well they have educators that I know who have not supported them since last year are still listed. Big fat lie there. I don't want to hear too that they've asked to be removed because I asked and demanded to be removed and was in one business day. I sent email to every dang briobirth.com I had in my in box that related to kylomi. I'm really sick and tired of seeing this crap and am sick and tired of people thinking we are the physcho ones. I don't know how else to let people know this is not a venue for certification. They will take your money and take some more and you won't get anything in return. It will seems nice and refreshing for a little while. Then the true colors will come out. Another point, and I've found this someone can't remember where at this time. We were told cert/dues for the first year was $195 and would possibly go down but never increase! Now look how much it is! Crazy

    1. You guys ARE the crazy ones! True colors always show through. I DO have a certificate and I AM teaching! THERE IS NO SCAM HERE!! Just a bunch of angry, mad women and YOU guys were the ones who LEFT! No one told you to go or refused to certify you! You guys simply didn't follow through. I have asked and I did my homework before I joined and all of your efforts didn't keep me away! You're not succeeding you're just showing how hateful you really can be! (someone said something about karma earlier...)

And every time you post on Facebook you guys look so stupid!! Go ahead and post there. There are enough of us still teaching and getting what we paid for and we all know how foolish you all are. Every time you post or comment it only makes you look more and more hateful, angry, spiteful, choose one, with every training and certification that keeps being held and keeps happening. Every time they post an inspiring story and every question they answer on Facebook. Every POSITIVE thing they do only makes you look more and more foolish. Go ahead! Keep it up and keep posting! All it does is make it clear to anyone else to stay away from you. I know I can't stand having hateful people in my life so thank you for filtering yourselves out so I know who you are. You're all anon here but at least on Facebook its clear who the idiots are!

    2. Did you not understand my post? I know for a fact several names listed on there as teachers ARE NOT teaching through them. So, again they are lying b/c they are inflating their numbers. if those teachers have not renewed why are they still listed? if they ran a real company that wanted integrity and honesty they would be absolutely honest about the real numbers they hold. I am sick of the claim that 80% of insurance companies pay for Brio Birth classes. So the evidence. Have you ever asked them where ALL that money they have collected went or goes? Do you realize we as educators where guaranteed we would know? I am not going around on FB b/c honestly it doesn't do anything. I am posting here only as anon b/c I don't want my name smeared anymore than it did get. my local community of TRUE birth professionals will have NOTHING to do with them. I am talking the bigger picture here. And still you have not come out and answered the big questions we have asked. Maybe if you want to prove us wrong answering those questions might sway a few that yep they are doing great thing. You only have talk. We have COURT documents, screen shots, and emails.

So again I ask you anon who loves Brio Birth, training how did that go and who did it? Did you have business training from Kyle? Which workbook are you using? Does it included the nutrition information that was to be taken out? Or is it the version 2? I only ask because for me that would show some progress being made. I do find it strange that discussion of the new version and the ed system is still being put off when it was to be released 11/11/11. You know, I do find it strange that Birth Boot Camp has made some amazing steps forward and has kept true to their mission and has produced some great things. I have seen no negativity with them. My point...why is it taking so long for Brio to overcome something and produce material. Boot Camp certainly has shown it is possible to do some great things and be productive. And interesting to note as well, I think they first came up with the idea of referrals and do an online classes and charge MUCH less for the class than Brio Birth.

If their goal is to help mom's, why are they charging so much for the virtual class? Make it accessible financially and you'd get more.

    3. I don't believe for one second that anyone is actually legitimately certified and teaching. If you think you're certified, sorry, that's not worth the paper it's printed on, which you probably provided, because you were probably emailed something that you had to print yourself. Kylomi/Karl/Brio scam victim in denial,I challenge you to name five educators, just FIVE, who are certified and teaching right now. Don't try to just pull names off of their horribly non-functioning and inaccurate directory, because many of those names are posters here or personally known by posters here, and they're not with Brio. These have to be five that you have personal contact with, and know are teaching. You can be one of them, or not, and you don't have to say whether you are, but know that the veracity of your claim will be incredibly easy to verify. Until you can do that, what you post here is not even worthy of consideration, much less belief. It is simply Kylomi trolling.

  50. Wow the one and only person who actually got a certificate from a company that has scammed so many. If you read what has been posted it is you who is the fool for continuing to support this scam.

Yes it is a scam. Just look at the names on their directory and do a little research. Almost every single one of them has cut all ties to Brio. Kyle and Naomi have not paid their debts in well over a year, and never will pay up.

If you did your homework before joining, then of course you read the court documents, you've seen that Brio/Kyle/Naomi owe huge amounts of money and are making no efforts to pay it, and you've seen how Kyle did nothing buy lie to everyone. Or did you just decide that none of that could be true, so you didn't bother? It's all there for you to read, but I guess you didn't bother.

Since it has been proven 100% that this is a scam, I guess that makes you part of it since you continue to defend it. Hopefully Karma will come for you as well.

  52. Are they really claiming that you can become a B B pro for $50 on facebook and when you get to the website that $50 only locks in the current overrated price? And the balance is due a week before the training you take and is non-refundable?

    1. That's how I read it, too :) I thought wow! $50! Of course who wouldn't jump on that; only to find out when you go to the website and see it is just a "deposit" to secure these low low fees. Again, what a slimy way to get people to give you money to find out later it wasn't $50. I love this statement, too..."No hidden fees to hold you up through your certification process - we want to make this as easy on you as possible." Well, if someone is just so excited and doesn't see that * by the $50* they would sign up and never realize that, hey, now you tell me I have to pay more? Call the fee what it is. Stop saying it is a they amount to pay to be a BB Pro. Also, don't you find it strange that fees keep changing CONSTANTLY. I love it that when we all got into this scam it was $195 and rates would stay there and not change (might even go down!).

I've got another strange question, too. What happened to the 50 first who renew thing? Now it's the 50 first who sign up get the CD. Did 50 educators renew? I think not.

Also, I find it strange that the claim this "Brio Birth offers the most premium childbirth education available anywhere. We have been working hard for the last year, though, on an even better, more fresh and effective approach to birth education. Click here to learn more about our new Brio Birth Educational System that we will be releasing in 2013, how it will work and what makes it the most advanced Childbirth Education System ever created. " Two things jump out at me right now. 1. "We have been working hard for the last year..." Sorry, but that is a LIE. They have worked over a year and were to release it on November 11, 2011. We are approaching that year anniversary of that release date and now it is a vague date of 2013 so no one can call them on it. 2. Again, just pointed it out that it is going to take them 2 years to get this new and exciting program out? That is strange when again wasn't it to be the new rage in 2011? But hey, if that other blog was out there wouldn't this truth be known to others? Only we that witnessed this know for sure.
